]]> http://www.harmsfam.net/2010/11/faux-news-stupid-or-evil/feed/ 0 Animal Planet, the new MTV http://www.harmsfam.net/2010/11/animal-planet-the-new-mtv/ http://www.harmsfam.net/2010/11/animal-planet-the-new-mtv/#comments Mon, 01 Nov 2010 08:21:12 +0000 Matt http://www.harmsfam.net/?p=411 Over the years I’ve enjoyed watching Discovery Channel’s Animal Planet.  They’ve always had quality shows that were entertaining and equally educational… until recently.  Most of Animal Planet’s shows are still very good but they are starting to go the way of MTV or other channels that lose value by showing practically anything.  One of the shows that I have a huge problem with is Whale Wars.  This show advocates a bunch well thought individuals that have absolutely no clue what they are doing.  They have next to no professional skills and rarely do they think things through.  For example, they hastily celebrate their minor victories but at the same time neglect to maintain their equipment.  They let one of their speed boats get ran over and destroyed only to lose 1000′s of dollars.  They let one of their other boats float away over night because they didn’t tie it down properly whilst they celebrated their simple victory of a good day. When they recovered the speed boat, they proceeded to destroy the prop on the rocks it floated up next to.

There are plenty of other shows on Animal Planet that are great, however this one is just plain horrible. I wouldn’t shed a tear if they decided to cancel the series. I don’t believe in killing whales for “research” as the Japanese put it. Nor do I accept killing them for the real reason which is eating them. If our world is in short supply of whales, we owe it to Gaia to make sure her animals are safe. But watching a bunch of buffoons run rampant in the ocean is not my idea of saving the whales. It’s just creating more havoc and putting people in difficult and sometimes dangerous situations.
