I’ve played a majority of the long running titles like Mario Bros., Metroids, and Zeldas. Well this week marks a milestone for me. I’ve finally conquered the Wii game “The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess” I started playing this game back in 2006 or 2007 shortly after it came out on the Nintendo GameCube but only made it about a 1/3 of the way through and haven’t played it since.

I so dearly have wanted to play this game for the Wii to get the whole experience the way it was meant to be played, so I recently I purchased a Wii (about 2 months ago) and I ordered Zelda and “Metroid: Trilogy”. Ever since I got Zelda I’ve been playing it on the weekends, not having much time on the week days. The kids were enjoying the game watching and even contributing a little by trying to guess what was in the treasure chests as I ran across them in the game. As I played through the game I read aloud the dialog so the kids could get a feel and understanding for the game content. I’m sure there were plenty of moments where they had a hard time understand with the bigger words they’ve not heard before, but they were really good and just went along. I’m kind of surprised they didn’t ask more questions about the meaning of the dialog along the way, but I’m sure that will come as they get older.

Last night I finally completed the game and it was very gratifying! It was nice to come back to this game because I didn’t remember a lot of the plot or story so it was almost a new game to me. Sure there were bits and pieces of the game that I remembered but they were more game play than anything else. I was under the impression that this game was going to be a little on the short side simply because I thought that after completing the first four missions I was getting close to the end. Nintendo did not disappoint though. There was at least two times more content to play through after this so I had plenty to do. Even performing some of the mini-quests were enjoyable. Some of the mini-quests would have been more enjoyable if they weren’t so tedious, granted this is what makes the game highly replayable.

The last memorable Zelda game I had played before this was “Wind Waker” and this will go down in memory as one of the best games of all time. Now that I’m done with this chapter of the Zelda games I look forward to the next installment, “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword” set to release sometime next year (2011). In the meantime, whilst I play the waiting game, I have Metroid: Trilogy I have to work on and yet another Metroid game is set to release at the end of the month. Of course I will not be able to complete the trilogy before the new release but I’ll have a great time playing through the trilogy as I haven’t played the second or third games yet.

Another game I can mark as completed!
